West Papua
West Papua lies on the Indonesian side of the island of New Guinea and is part of one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. The island is home to vast tropical rainforests and an extraordinary variety of plant and animal life. In 2019, West Papua became the first Indonesian province to adopt special legislation placing conservation and sustainable development at the heart of regional planning. The framework aims to protect valuable terrestrial and marine ecosystems, promote sustainable livelihoods and strengthen the rights of Indigenous communities.
Our cocoa beans come from the Eiber Suth cooperative, whose name translates as “Unity to Arise”, in the Ransiki region. Here, cocoa production has been revived on former plantation land and today provides an important source of livelihood for local communities. The cooperative is committed to preserving local cocoa-growing knowledge while continuing to develop the distinctive quality of Ransiki cocoa.
